Experience of Lisa Reihl - Germany

On the day of the "environment” we celebrated the support for the in Bosque de Pomac. The event was organized by ECO Center. I was accompanied by many Europeans, a crowd of volunteers and also from the ECO Center team.

Dante Diaz, Director of the ECO Center, thanked us for our help, explained the importance of such support for the world and gave us an introduction to Bosque de Pomac and its peculiarities. Then we started. First, we built groups consisting of three persons. Each group was given its own workspace. We opened channels with shovels in our area of landscape. Later we had to fill the channels with water so we could soak the tree seeds in it. The seeds must be planted in small holes every two feet. The locust tree is typical for Peru and a symbol of Bosque de Pomac.

After the hot sun and the physical effort, yet you felt good because you did something for the world. In addition, we had a lot of fun!

Experience of Kristoffer Wahlgren, Volunteer - Sweden

I worked for a few days by the organization ECO - hopefully it will be many more ...

I spent the days in the north of Peru, in search of my calling, or at least a place to be able to stay longer - even for something meaningful to do. I think I found it. One of my dreams has long been improving the environment, establishing a sustainable development, preserve and protect the planet, etc. - no trifles! I frankly think, there are many people who want to achieve the same. But not everyone wants to get their hands dirty or really want to deal with the problem. But maybe they are hoping that other people are going to make it. I like to get my hands dirty (if it leads to something good), and it literally did.

I have to say that I've neither seen much nor done much so far. Yesterday I accompanied the team to Bosque de Pomac to help and to see how the reforestation of the area can be accomplished. That was a very good experience for me. It was the first step (of many) for the environment of Peru, and hopefully also for the impact on the world, even in other respects.

Of course I'm interested in the cause and reason as ECO dealing with these issues and I will help them. The field work was very helpful and interesting to see the spirit and enthusiasm of everybody (myself included). But for me it was very hard work because it was so hot in the former desert. When I hiked along the rows (where, since the seeds are sown and some are already in the form of trees) with buckets full of water, I thought that automatic irrigation should be used here in order to facilitate the work! Just open the faucet and the plants will be irrigated. That will be the next step, assuming we have more resources and investment. But until now, we are happy and satisfied.

But I know that the organization ECO does much more than "just" the planting of trees. The reforestation project is just one of many. But I want to learn more about it, and contribute to save the environment and share experiences that are good in my view.
